External Router and Laptop connected at the same time?

I just got a UI24R and it sounds great. I hooked up a external router and set the IP address on the UI properly, all good no issues with connecting. Can I also hook up my laptop to the second ethernet port and have a wired connection at the same time as hooked up to external router. I want my band mates to be able to connect wireless via the Lan with external router, and I want a hard-wired connection via my laptop in case of lost connection> Thanks
