UI24R Shows, Snapstots, Cues and Backups
Good morning!
I ve bought a UI24R and i'm beginning having fun with it. I also bought a long video tutorial that i'm following because this mixer is very deep and i need it.
Well, i'd like to backup some mixer setting and i dont understand difference between Shows, Snapstots, Cues, can someone explain me?
Example: i have different instruments playing together, CH1, CH2...CH8. for each of them i choose name channel, different EQ, different AUX... so i set everything for THAT band, called BAND 1.
I'd like to backup this "situation" with name, DYNamics, VCA, Groups and so on so tomorrow i can start without setting again. Is this a Show, a Snapshot or a Cue?
Next week i ll use this mixer with another new band, called BAND 2, with new instruments and eq and name channel, everythingi is different. So how can i save BAND 1 and BAND 2 "images" ?
Probably i could answer to myself if i understand differences between these 3 words: Shows, Snapstots, Cues.
Thank you for help!

Show is just a folder what includes some snapshot files and cue files.
Snapshot is everything what you set.
Cue is more simple than snapshot.
Thus, what you need is saving snapshot only.
Recalling snapshots makes an audio gap of 1.5 second. So you need to take care for the timing if you use this function while your live show time. Recalling cues doesn't make this audio gap, however the cue only includes fader level and mute status then it doesn't match to your purpose.
Recalling a show means just recall the first ( A-Z order ) snapshot.
Global view group selections, Mute group selections, and Isolate selection will be saved in each show folder then all of the snapshots in this show will share them. If you want to have several sets of the global viewgroups, Mute groups, and ISO settings, you may make several shows ( folders ) and save any snapshots there accordingly.
What is the isolate function?
When you'll recall a snapshot, isolated items won't be replaced by the recalled snapshot. You can make some items staying. It means that selected items will be isolated from the snapshot recalling.
Really THANK YOU for easy explaining! so i better need to save Snapshots than Cues.
Another question, that doesnt match with the post name but it's similar:
i m creating more snapshots into "shows" folders, they are phisically inside the mixer (it's not a "local" setting).
I can export on a USB pendrive if i need to reset my mixer to the default, and then import in the future. It's ok, easy!
Well, what is "offline file" JSON FILE? in my opinion is the backup of the whole mixer, in case this one will die to recover all settings into another UI24R brand new? am i right? a kind of "hard disk image" of the whole mixer software and settings?
Example: i know "tomorrow" i will play with mixer and i will change a lot of stuffs and parameters, including LAN config and so on. Before to do, i backup JSON file so next week i can go back to TODAY (before making hard changes) in few click? is it intended for this?
Thank you so much
No that's not.
Offline file also saves everything about the mixing ( From input pathing, Gain, Gate, Comp, EQ, Level, something and output patching ) almost same as snapshots. It'll be saved into your controlling device ( PC, Tablet, Smartphone )directly. Web browser downloads the JSON format text file.
You can edit this OFFLINE file with the demo mixer on the Soundcraft web site. ( Upload to the web demo mixer > Edit > Re-download, then upload it to your actual device ).
Offline file uploading makes the status update immediately.
No audio-gap here.
Isolate function doesn't work here.
Local settings won't be saved.
So, this is meaning that same as you are operating the mixer manually very very fast.
You can edit this offline file with using JOSON editor applications. There are many kinds freeware and sharewares for editing it. If you'd like to isolate CH1 from the offline file updating, you may erase all description about CH1 in that json text. Not too easy. Slight bothering. However, if you made it once, it would be so useful. For example, make all EQ flat, make all gain zero, something whatever you want. Other items will be staying because you had eraced the items from the file contents.
On the otherhand, Snapshot file can be exported into the USB pendrive as the Export shows function. It's also editable with normal text editor. Snapshot is importable back again but Cue is not. Probably due to a bug.
As you have found, there are some items not saved in the snapshot and offline file. Some of them can be saved as PRESET.
PRESET is the individual existance. No relation from the snapshot.
So, even if you saved an EQ preset now, you can recall this EQ shape onto the CH in the yseterday's snapshots.
Gate preset, Comp preset, EQ preset, CH preset, FX preset, and Local preset. These are all individually. You can save your local settings as a local preset.
Now you've already found that you should save all preset then export it to the pendrive not only SHOWS before rest the mixer. Presets are importable to the device again.
Global setting won't be saved anywhere. You've got to set it manually again after the reset.
Ok, it's easy for me to edit json file because i m a programmer ;-)
i use UI24R as hobby for now, maybe in future i could gain some money but as hobbist. Today i m trying to understand how UI24R thinks and operates.
So, if i understood it good, there is no a way to backup ALLLLL the firmware config mixer (lan, eq, settings..) with everything is Global (i need to save json and/or cues/snapshots, presets).
i m learning UI24R from the same pc everyday so i dont know yet what happens if i change pc, Local Settings will be not available for sure!
If i set "Gate preset, Comp preset, EQ preset, CH preset, FX preset, and Local preset." directly from HDMI mixer, can i export to a pendrive? i d like to see these presets from any pc because i could use different pc in different scenarios
Ui24R has a kind of linux pc inside what has HDMI output. ( upto 720P resolution so BIG-D mode is not available )
It remotes the mixing unit, so it is same. You can handle the presets. I haven't tried OFFLINE file function, though.
JSON file settings can change something which the default GUI doesn't have as the parameters.
I found it can change the output patching from unit to USBDAW.
