    No, sorry Joe.
    I don't have any firmware for either of those panels.
    I'll ask around and see what I can do.

    Wanted to add a few tips. I had a MVP-8400 with a bad CF card which AMX wanted $200 for a replacement card (list price). I, fortunately, had another one that was working properly.

    The formatting on the CF card wasn't recognized by my Windows or Mac machines. I was, however, able to use acronis true image to make an exact image of the card and then restore that to a new card. Worked great. I popped it in the panel, reset the settings and pages and was good to go with a clean panel.

    Total cost: $10 for a new card and 30 minutes of my time.

    Hi Dave,

    I have received your file. I restored it in a compact flash and put into the CV7, but unfortunatelly the CV7 no changed the state, no show the AMX logo, and not connect by usb or ethernet.

    I have tried to receive responses from debug port, but nothing come from it .
    I have a NDX-700i working fine and try connect to debug port too, but nothing come from this port too. It is so strange , I made the same thing with a NXT-1200 and received all boot responses from debug port.
    anyways i will continue try solve the problem.

    Thank you so much by try help me.

    Unfortunately, not all of the boot processes are stored on the CF card. Some are on a non-volatile RAM in the unit, and if that gets scrambled, only AMX can fix it. Similarly, if the firmware in RAM doesn't match the firmware on the CF, it may not work either.
  • MVP-8400i

    My 8400i stuck on AMX logo.... thus anyone has the image file of 8400i version V2.86.50 512+Demo! please send to my email enrico.lingo@hitecoman.com thank you in advance....

    TECH NOTE

    Title: Upgrading G4 Installation Platforms
    Date: 10/26/03
    Authors: Robert Pittana
    Revision: 1.1

    1.0 SCOPE
    This tech note describes step by step how to install or upgrade a Linux
    system to create compact flash images for the following and possibly other
    future G4 products:

    * NXP-TPI4
    * NXT-CV12
    * NXD-CV12
    * NXT-CV15
    * NXD-CV15
    * NXT-CV17
    * NXD-CV17
    * NXT-CV7
    * NXD-CV7
    * MVP-7500
    * MVP-8400

    2.0 PROCESS
    You should have been supplied with a master compact flash containing a zip
    file. The zip file in turn contains the files necessary to create compact
    flashes for the G4 product line.

    If you are reading this file it is assumed that you have the ability to
    extract the files from this zip archive.

    To install simply extract all files, including paths, to /root/. You will
    now see an Installer icon on your desktop.

    3.0 VERSION
    To determine the version of this distribution you can examine the file
    PHALVersion.h contained in this zip archive.

  • I recently had success with a CV12 with the similar symptoms and leaving unpowered and without CF card for several months seemed to erased any non-volatile RAM corruption it had...it has been working for weeks now without a problem...
  • Hi.

    I know this is an old thread but it seems my trusty MVP-8400's CF card is on its last legs, will boot after a few attempts, if I press 'reboot' it hangs at the splash screen. As it's my personal unit I'd rather not fork out for a dealer-item.

    If anyone has an image they would be willing to email me, it would be very much appreciated!

    My panel was using firmware version: 2.57.53

    If you just clone your old card to a new card you should be okay.
    After you are successful you should re-install the firmware and then perform a factory reset just to make sure you remove any glitches.

    I just found some plain 4GB CF cards maded by Kingston Technology at IM for $9.00 each. These aren't the Ultra or Extreme cards.

    It would be nice if AMX made images available for all their TPs and Masters. It would be the decent thing to do so that dealers don't have to open up new devices to clone the image before they need it and we wouldn't have to scrounge around the forums begging for handouts.

    It won't happen but it would be nice if they did.

    Has anyone opened up an X series yet to see what they use? I was thinking about opening my work bench MXT-1000 but at a quick glance it didn't look like fun and I hate to open unless I need but I fear that when I need to it will be too late to clone the image. The old catch 22. Of course I wouln't have to think about it if images were made available from AMX.
  • Cheers for the guidance Mush, I wasn't notified of it so have only just got back one here.

    I used WinHex to 'clone the disk' & made a .img file too, I'm not overly familiar with Linux hence the reason for doing it under windows, i then booted into my Ubuntu partition and ran GParted on it to carry out a disk repair check as I found an error when using the disk utility, GParted fixed it.

    I then attempted to connect via USB but restart just hung on the splash screen, I tried a few times all with the same result. So, I dug out an old router & connected it to my laptop, connected up my master and connected the panel that way, carried out a firmware update via ethernet and now not only is the firmware updated but it'll also connect via USB. ;) a bit of a faff to get it sorted but thankfully done now ;) (oh, and an image taken of the freshly updated/date set/wifi connected CF card just to be safe) Next job is to try and increase the storage from 64Mb to the full 4Gb, we'll see though.

    I tried to read the CF card in both windows & linux for the master (NI-2000) but it was having none of it, just not detected at all, put the CF card back and it works as normal. weird. if anyone has any suggestions for that, it'd be appreciated.

    thanks ;)

    Here's the procedure I came up with for using WinHex to clone/restore a CF card:

    edit: FYI, if you purchase WinHex I believe you need the "Specialist" license. If you get PRO and try to upgrade to specialist you'll pay an additional $20 or maybe EUR 20, I forget.
    To clone a CF insert card into reader
    in WineHex > Clone Disk
    Select Physical Media not Logical Volumes/Partitions, not Drive E (example)
    (mine is > Physical Media > RM4: Generic Storage Device (disk/file size)
    Create destination file (target), name_firmware.dd (add the .dd to the end of file name)
    Save as type: Raw Image/Cntainer (.001,.dd,.img,.ctr)
    click OK
    xfer should be at least 30 seconds for 64mb, longer if larger, xxx,xxx sectors successfully copied , example
    Make back up copy but remove .dd from file name so you just get .whx

    To restore to new disk
    insert new disk (same size or larger++) as the disk that was cloned.
    goto File > Restore Image
    Select source File of image .dd file
    Select Destination drive (Physical not Logical).
    Has anybody got a .dd image for the MVP-8400 older than v2_86_50? Maybe v2_85_14 or v2_62.1. I've tried the last 2 images (2_86_50 & 55 ) and my screen loads but I can't perform the screen calibration so I can't push buttons and I don't see it on the network and can't enable USB. So I'm hoping an older image might work. I don't know what its IP was or subnet, I assume it was static and I don't even know what the DPS was.

    I tried taking the firmware .kit file and changing the extension to .dd, I then opened it in WinHex and it looked promising, some parts readable but no joy. It's probably do able with some inside knowledge.

    I don't need the MVP-8400 image anymore. I was able take a working MVP and roll it back to 2_85_14 and then clone that CF. Once the CF was installed in the non working MVP I had ethernet connection but still no touch. Since I had ethernet I upgraded to the current MVP firmware through NS3 but that made me lose my ethernet connection and I still had no touch. I then made another 2_85_14 clone CF, installed it to get back ethernet and then did a firmware transfer using 2_26_1 through NS3. This worked and I now have touch, an ethernet connection and four different MVP images on file.
  • Wish I'd have seen this earlier, I'd have sent you a file.

    Sounds like you had a whole heap of 'fun' ;)

    Thanks but to make any difference the file you had would have needed to be v2.62.1. All in all it wasn't that bad. I should have thought about using my good MVP to get the right firmware file from the get go. Simetimes the obvious isn't that obvious.

    Since I was having so much fun I also took apart my MXT-1000 to clones its image. It uses a 4G micro SD card. A word of advice for anyone who wants to take one of these apart is just remove the 4 small black screws on the bottom of the base and that will allow the black plastic back cover to be removed. You'll be able to access the SD card with just this cover removed. The 4 larger silver screws will allow the screen to seperate from the base and if you do that some of your ribbon cables may pull out of their sockets. All the wires are taped up pretty good so you'll need to remove most of the tape to get enough slack on the wires to keep them from pulling out of their sockets. I had one pull out and it was a pain to get back in.

    Flash Image for an MVP 7500

    Hey can anyone help me out? I have an MVP7500 stuck at the boot screen after doing a full panel transfer(delete the old add the new)from within TPD4 to the panel. I lost connection half way through and it appears it has corrupted the CF. I have no access to the Setup page and It's not showing online.

    It was firmware v.2.86.36 on a 128MB CF

    I was trying to update to the newest setup page.(I might have been going about it the wrong way) Any help on an image file would be greatly appreciated. I'm still learning AMX and working on programming ACE, so any verbal lashings are justly deserved. And any feedback on how I should go about panel upgrades(or a reference to a document) would also be appreciated. Thank You in Advance!

    No worries!
    Next job is to try and increase the storage from 64Mb to the full 4Gb, we'll see though.

    To resize the partition on a panel CF card you will need to boot into Linux.
    Then run GParted and resize the last partition.
    I tried to read the CF card in both windows & linux for the master (NI-2000) but it was having none of it, just not detected at all, put the CF card back and it works as normal. weird. if anyone has any suggestions for that, it'd be appreciated.

    The CF card in a master is FAT16. You should be able to see it no problems at all.

    Cheers

  • Hi Mush,

    Thanks... managed to make a backup of the CF card in my master and increase the capacity in the Modero. Jeez. Never enough time to spend with this stuff. So, on that note, i wondered if you / someone could comment on increasing the partition size on the master cf card? The modero was straight forward in Gparted. I tried the same for the master cf card and received errors, regarding the FAT iirc. Should it just be a simple resize job?

    thanks in advance.
  • never mind, all sorted.

    simply created a new partition @ 1Gb on the cf card, formatted to fat16, copied the contents of the original cf card back to the new one and et voila 1Gb of disk space which of course, I see no reason to not extend up to 2Gb eithe which should be more than plenty.

    Excellent, i don't have to cough up for new CF cards :)
    thanks for your help thus far ;)

  • Upgrade of ME260 controller from 16MB to 64MB card process

    I just wanted to post my successful experience upgrading the CF card on an ME260 controller card from 16MB to a spare 64MB card.

    1) The original 16MB card (drive F: ) was imaged using the Roadkil Disk Image [1] program into a file, using a USB CF card reader.

    2) I then took a 64MB CF card and restored the 16MB disk image to this card. This created a 16MB CF card that didn't recognize the extra 48MB of the new CF card.

    3) I then ran MiniTool Partition Wizard Home edition (freeware) [2] and had a look at the partitioning on the 16MB card. The original 16MB CF card had the following properties:
    - Partition Type ID: 0x1
    - File System: FAT12
    - Serial Number: 0x65b10ef
    - First Physical Sector: 32
    - Last Physical Sector: 31295
    - Total Physical Sector: 15.19MB
    - Sectors per Cluster: 8 (4096)
    - Number of Fats: 2
    - Reserved Sectors: 1
    - Sectors per FAT: 12
    - Root Entries Limit: 512

    4) Swapped the 16MB to the copied 64MB CF card in the CF reader and ran Partition Wizard again.

    5) Used the Partition Wizard to Move/Resize the partition to use up the unused space on the card, and then clicked on the Apply button.

    6) Looked at the properties of the expanded partitioned 64MB CF card and found it changed:
    - Partition Type ID: 0x4
    - File System: FAT16
    - Serial Number: (can't remember now - but it wasn't the same as the 16MB card)
    - First Physical Sector: 32
    - Number of Fats: 2
    - Reserved Sectors: 33

    7) Changed the Serial Number of the partition back to 0x65b10ef just in case that was important and clicked on the Apply button.

    8) Quit Partition Wizard and ejected the 64MB CF card.

    9) Placed the 64MB CF card into the ME260 and booted it up.

    10) ME260 seems to boot up and works. Telnet into the ME260 and doing a 'show mem' shows Disk Free of 52015104 bytes, showing that the partition expansion seems to have worked.

    Caveats and Warnings: I haven't done anything serious with the ME260 yet, but it seems to be responding OK to telnet, Web and Netlinx Studio. I'm not responsible for you trying this and failing or having problems with reliability or functionality of this upgraded CF card and system. I would recommend keeping your original CF card around in case you experience later problems. I'm just practicing programming and wanted a larger disc-on-card storage to play with.

    System used: Macintosh running Windows XP (latest updates) under Parallels 8 emulator. Laser USB CF card reader. Original 16MB card was SanDisk SDCFB-16-101-00. Newer CF card was 64MB Kodak card.

    Thanks to the previous posters on this topic, for giving me the information that allowed me to make this work.

    Is it not getting past the AMX splash screen or is it getting to the startup screen but doesn't do pushes?

    You might. The firmware on the card needs to match the firmware in the panel already or it's unlikely to work.

    One of our dealers swears by a clever workaround for matching firmware...
    He uploads new firmware (any version) into a working panel, but pulls the power when it begins the reboot that will push the new bits into the panel memory.

    Then he clones the ready-to-reboot card, and puts the clone in the target panel. When the panel boots, the update gets forced, making the panel match whatever firmware is on the card.

    Formatting should not enter into it. I've always done a direct copy of my CF cards using dd under FreeBSD, and it's proven to work. This is a bit-for-bit copy that does not involve formatting. Remember, you're not copying files here; you're creating a disk image.

    As to the question, the answer is "it depends". If the image you have is the same firmware as the target panel, you should be OK. If it's very close, you might be OK. Is this really so much cheaper and less risky than just sending the panel in for repair?
